Insurance & Self-Pay — Arizona
Insurance and self-pay: what a visit costs
Most Better Place Now patients use insurance and pay their normal copay or coinsurance. Without insurance, a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation is $220 and a 30-minute follow-up is $120. Thirteen plans are on the practice's list, including Medicare, AHCCCS, BCBS of Arizona, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and TRICARE. Benefits are verified before your visit.

Your cost is confirmed before the visit

Step 1: Call, text, or email
Tell the team your plan, or that you will pay yourself. No health details are needed to schedule.
Step 2: Benefits verified
The team checks your plan and explains your expected copay, coinsurance or self-pay rate, usually within one business day.
Step 3: Then you book
Only once you know what you will owe. Plan participation and patient responsibility vary by product and eligibility.
Self-pay without surprises
If you do not have insurance or prefer not to use it, the currently listed rates are $220 for a 60-minute first evaluation and $120 for a 30-minute follow-up. Federal rules generally entitle people who are uninsured or self-paying to a good faith estimate of expected charges (CMS (opens in a new tab)).
Self-pay patients receive a Good Faith Estimate at least one business day before the first visit. Lab orders, forms or letters may carry separate charges. For self-pay patients and those with commercial insurance, a $75 fee applies to cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice and to missed visits; patients covered by Medicare, TRICARE, AHCCCS or VA Community Care are not charged.
For how deductibles, copays and coinsurance work, see the Journal's guide to psychiatry costs in Arizona.
